The University’s Student Services department (including the Advice Zone) offers information, advice and confidential support to students.

All information, held either electronically or in the form of paper files, within the department is confidential except in the most extreme circumstances, which are

• When you or someone else is in serious danger or at risk of serious harm.
• When disclosure is required by law (including law relating to public health).

In such instances, staff would seek to discuss the situation with the client before breaching confidence. In all cases, a decision to breach confidentiality will be taken by a senior member of the Department after discussions which preserve anonymity in the first instance.
